Stage 2: Malton to York

We recommend heading out of Malton along the River Derwent riverside path, which goes as far as the Menethorpe Suspension Bridge, before heading directly south towards Westow and then west to Kirkham and Kirkham Abbey where you can rejoin the riverside path to Howsham.

At Howsham it's then directly west along country roads through Haxton to the A64 for a short stretch before then heading south through Claxton, Sand Hutton, Wathill and Brockfield before continuing on trails across to Murton. We recommend this route as, whilst both this and the more direct Stockton Lane don't always have footpaths, the traffic is lighter this way.

Once over the A64 at Murton it's then west again through Osbaldwick following the Osbaldwick Road to the A1079 Hull Road, which leads straight into York.

This route is approximately 37.4km with a total climb of roughly105m.
