Stage 5: Marsden to Manchester

We definitely recommend using the trails on this route rather than the A62, which can attract impatient drivers.

Leaving Marsden on Mount Road, join the trails at Carr Clough and continue heading southwest along the trails and Boat Lane to Diggle, where runners can join the canal towpath that will take them as far as Saddleworth where they can join the A6070 Oldham Road.

Staying on the A6070 will take runners through to Ashton-under-Lyne, where they can join the Ashton Canal towpath which will bring them all the way into Manchester city centre.

This route is approximately 33km with a total climb of roughly 333m, mostly near Marsden.
